Jinnah International Airport Karachi

Pakistan’s finest civil construction project is Jinnah International airport formerly known as Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. Let’s go through its brief yet intriguing history and developmental achievements till date.

Karachi airport also known as Jinnah International Airport is the leading civil aviation facility of Pakistan. Used for both international and domestic flights, it is considered to be the largest airport in Pakistan. The airport was initially called Karachi airport but later on, it was named after Quaid-e-Azam, the founder of Pakistan. Another name for its passenger terminal is Jinnah Terminal therefore, it’s also known as Jinnah International Airport.

The airport is the hub of Pakistan Airlines (PIA), the flagship air service of Pakistan, Shaheen Air International, Air Blue and many other private and commercial airlines. The airport is equipped with latest aircraft engineering and servicing, overhauling tools and facilities for instance the Ispahani Hangar for an aircraft with wide body.

Structurally, Jinnah International Airport bears the capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers per year. According to a report, more than 6.6 million passengers used Karachi airport back in 2007-2008 and the movements of approximately 249,283 aircrafts were being recorded. Being the largest airport of the country, the design and structure of its building has always stayed in top shape.

Overall, the entire building is interconnected via corridors to two satellites. Each of the satellites has the provision of eight passenger-loading bridges are categorized into eastern and western satellites. The western satellite is mainly used for domestic flights and operations although some international operations do take place as well by using different gates. The eastern satellite is mainly used for international operations. Both the satellites consist of departure loungers, various shopping centers, snack bars, banks and much more.Jinnah International Airport Karachi Taking a brief view on the history of Jinnah Terminal, it was completed back in 1992 and the overall expense was about US $100 million, probably the most expensive civil project in Pakistan at that time.
